DOUBLE DECKERS MAKE THEIR COMEBACK IN JERSEY
Emily Moore, Monday, June 27, 2011
A LONG-AWAITED comeback has taken place this week as double decker buses have returned to the Island's roads for the first time in over 30 years.
Following a successful trial in May 2010,Connex have purchased two double decker buses which will operate on the busiest route on the Mybus network - the route 15 to the Airport.
The Dennis Trident Enviro 400 buses comply with the European Union EEV legislation meaning that they are environmentally enhanced vehicles, whcih ensures the lowest level of carbon emissions.
They will also increase capacity on the route 15 which carries almost a third of all passengers on the Mybus network. As well as increasing capacity, the buses have a spacious interior with increased legroom and comfort creating a pleasant travelling environment.
Jersey Telecoms have installed The Cloud wi-fi technology on both the buses and one of the vehicles features tables on the upper deck. Both vehicles also offer wheelchair access and luggage racks.
Connex Transport Jersey Ltd Managing Director Eric Le Roux said: 'The response from passengers to last year's trial was overwhelmingly positive and we are confident that the arrival of the double deckers will encourage even more poeple onto the Mybus network.
'The introduction of double deckers is part of our continuing investment in the fleet following the arrival of the new single deck buses earlier this year which have proved very popular with passengers. This enhancement of the fleet, together with the constant evolution of the timetable, is part of our commitment to make the Mybus network an attractive and viable mode of transport for Islanders.'
From Monday 27 June 2011, the double decker buses will be operating the following trips (times given are departures from Liberation Station): 0605, 0645, 0725, 0845, 0905, 1025, 1045, 1205, 1305, 1345, 1445, 1525, 1645, 1705, 1805, 2035. All these departures will be from Stand L at Liberation Station.
