NEW BUSES TAKE TO THE ROADS
Emily Moore, Monday, March 07, 2011
PASSENGERS on the Island's two busiest routes will benefit from new buses following a recent investment from Connex.
From Monday 7 March, the five new Enviro 200 buses will be on service on the routes 1 to Gorey and 15 to the Airport.
The new vehicles are designed to enhance the travelling environment for passengers offering comfortable seats with more leg room, wheelchair accessibility and luggage racks. They are also higher capacity buses being licenced to carry 61 passengers.
The investment is part of Connex's commitment to enhancing bus travel and Managing Director Eric Le Roux said: 'Throughout our operation in Jersey, Connex have been proud to deliver a high level of service for our passengers and we are confident that these new buses will develop this further providing increased comfort and capacity on the two most popular routes of the Mybus network.'
Easily distinguished by the new livery in white, blue and gold, the buses also reflect the drive by Connex and Transport and Technical Services to attract more passengers onto the network.
Mr Le Roux added: 'Bus travel is becoming increasingly popular and we are hopeful that these new high capacity buses will cater for this growth in demand particularly at peak times.'
Respecting the environment, the Enviro 200 buses comply with the European Union EEV legislation meaning that they are environmentally enhanced vehicles, which ensures the lowest level of carbon emissions.
The first trip by an Enviro 200 is the route 15 departure from Liberation Station at 1125 on Monday 7 March. All buses will then be on regular service on the routes 1 and 15.
